Wellington City in New Zealand, Oceania.

By Mark on March 18, 2010

The New Zealand city of Wellington is the capital city and is also the third most populous urban area of New Zealand. This city is well known for being called Windy Wellington because if you did not know this or have never visited Wellington it is the windiest city in New Zealand. This highly populated area is situated on the North Island towards the on the southwestern tip of the country. And lies between Cook Strait and the Rimutaka Range.

This is a picture taken of Lower Hutt city, within the Wellington region.

New Zealand is split into two island’s the North Island and the South Island. Now as I have just mentioned Wellington is on the North Island and is home to 386,000 residents, and within the surrounding area of the city, there is a population of 3,700 residents. This means that the major part of New Zealands population live  in the southern part of the North Island. It is also the seat of the Wellington Region and in addition to this the urban area also covers the Kapiti Coast and Wairarapa. The main populated area lies across four cities in New Zealand, they are, Wellington City, which is on the peninsula between Cook Strait and Wellington Harbour, and this is where alot of the business companies work and this makes it the central business district and about half of Wellington’s population. The other three cities are Porirua City, which is on the Porirua Harbour to the north is notable for its large Māori and Pacific Island communities. Lower Hutt City and Upper Hutt City are suburban areas to the northeast, together known as the Hutt Valley.

New Zealand from my experience has often been known for it wonderful looking countrysides and gorgeous scenaries. Nearly always looks warm and sunny, just like the sunny town of Eastbourne in England. Down there even when it rains it still looks beautiful. In 2009 the Mercer Quality of Living Survey, placed Wellington City and it’s urban areas 12th in world on this companies list. Below is a statement that was taken from Wikipedia about Mercer Quality of Living Survey.
The 2009 Mercer Quality of Living Survey ranked Wellington 12th place in the world on its list, The world’s most livable cities is an informal name given to any list of cities as they rank on a reputable annual survey of living conditions. Two examples are the Mercer Quality of Living Survey and The Economist‘s World’s Most Livable Cities (using data from Mercer as well). The list does not necessarily include factors such as entertainment.

This is a video of Wellington taken from Youtube, enjoy.
So for someone like myself who has never had the opportunity to visit New Zealand, if I was given the chance I actually think that this is the city I would want to visit, that is no disrespect to the other cities, but I like Wellinton. Pubs, clubs, restaurants, cinemas, hotels, wine bars, hostels, theatres, shops galore and the beach, parks and local walking areas. Beautiful just look at the pictures, taken from flickr.
