Welcome to Greece, Corfu and the Temple of Zeus.

By Mark on March 26, 2009

Greece is situated in south-east of Europe, bordering the countries of Albania, Macedonia and Bulgaria to the north and Turkey to the east. It is a mountainous country, but is also well known for being Maritime, which is to do with oceans, fishing and sailing.
There are many islands surrounding Greece ie Corfu which is within the north-west of the main land. It is one of the largest Ionian Islands. The capital of the Island is Corfu city, or Kérkyra in Greek.
There is so much history in the story of Greece that it would take me years to write about all of it, so I will refer you to Wikipedia, that will help you learn more about this magnificent country.
Below is a picture of the temple of Zeus as it is today, but if you refer to the link at the bottom of this post your will learn lot about this amazing Temple, built in Athens in the 6th century BC, during the rule of the Athenian tyrants, who envisaged building the greatest temple in the ancient world.
It was dedicated to the king of greek Olympian gods, Zeus.
But it was not completed until the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD some 650 years after the project had begun.

A nice quick description of Greece. I can understand you not writing too much about the history as it is such an ancient country. Well done
