If you ever get the chance to visit Florida in the United States of America, you must visit Fernandina Beach, it is a city in the American county of Nassau, which is in the state of Florida in the U.S.A and is located on the Amelia Island. The first ever to live on Fernandina Beach were the Timucuan Indian tribe. Where this place is, it is known as the “Isle of 8 Flags”, and the it flags have been flown over the Isle, since 1562, the flags belong to France, Spain, Great Britain, Spain (again), the Patriots of Amelia Island, the Green Cross of Florida, Mexico, the Confederate States of America, and the United States. And it is the only municipality in the United States that has flown eight different national flags. In 2008, cities population was estimated at

So where is the Amelia Island, well, if you were to look at the east coast of U.S.A, between the states of South Carolina down to Florida, you will find a chain of barrier islands, and it is located on the southernmost of the Sea Islands. The chain of Islands is 13 miles (21 km) long and approximately 4 miles (6 km) wide at its widest point. Now Amelia Island is situated south of Cumberland Island, Georgia, off the coast of Florida in Nassau County. The tourist flock to this island, where they find Fernandina Beach and Amelia City which are both located on the island. But what some of you already know, and some of you don’t is that alot of entertainment is on this small island for example you have the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival, the Amelia Island Jazz Festival, the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival, the Amelia Island Film Festival, and the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. For all you film boths out there did you know that Amelia Island was the main filming location for the 2002 John Sayles directed film Sunshine State.

Here is a brief history about the Amelia Island Affair and what happened, it was an episode in the history of colonial Florida. Back in the early 1800′s the island was apart of the U.S.A, but after the Embargo Act (1807) and the abolishment of the American slave trade (1808) Amelia Island, became very interesting to smugglers, where sometimes there was up to as 300 square-rigged vessels in its harbor. Then in June 1817, a scottish adventurer, named Gregor MacGregor, decided to invade Amelia Island, he had some success, but after he had fled to Nassau County and former fellow companion of MacGregor a man named Louis-Michel Aury previously leader of a pirates’ gang on Galveston Island, Texas, he went on to take control of Amelia, he got a legislature elected and went on to form a committee to drawing a constitution, he then went on to invite as many Floridans as he could to join together and get rid of the Spanish. But on the 23/12/1817, the United States, decided to send a naval force to captured Amelia Island, which they did and went on to end the republic.
