This is a post about the north-western city of Haifa in Israel, this is the largest city in northern part of Israel, it is also the third-largest city in Israel and it is the closest city to the Lebanon border, with a population of over 264,900. This city is well-known for her mixed population of Jews and Arabs giving an example for peaceful co-existence. Haifa city is also the home to the Bahá’í World Centre, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This city was built on the slopes of Mount Carmel, which is supposed to have a history dating back to Biblical times. The first known settlement within the area was Tell Abu Hawam, which was a small port city during the the 14th century, Bronze Age. This city has been conquered and ruled by many nations within her past some of them were: Byzantines, Arabs, Crusaders, Ottomans, Egyptians, and the British. But since 1948, when Israel became a state, the city it’self is now being governed by the Haifa Municipality.

You will find that this city is around about 90 kilometres or 56 miles from the Israeli capital city of Tel Aviv. Being the largest city within the north of Israel it is also a major regional centre for the north of the country.
There is so much to learn about Haifa City that you should look up at Wikipedia. This city has two well respect Universaties like the the University of Haifa and the Technion.
Because of Israel’s lovely beaches it is a great place to visit and the sites are very welcoming. Sadly because of the problems related with Israel and her neighbours, people are very causious about visiting this country, but it is a really nice country to visit from what I have seen and learn’t. So give it a try.
