Virtual-Tripping discovers Steven Gately’s street where he lived. (Boyzone).

By Mark on November 15, 2009

Steven Gately was a member of the Irish pop group, Boyzone, I have discovered that this man lived in Sheriff Street, Dublin, Republic of Ireland, U.K. Did you know that the people of Sheriff street call this street the “Sheriffer,”. This area is a small place within the north inner city of Dublin, Ireland, and is actually located between the East Wall and North Wall, but alot of the locals consider this street to be more on the north wall, rather than the east wall.

If you have never been to Sheriff Street before you will find it to be a bit of a run-down area, where it has been known to have a high crime rate, which to me sounds quite sad. During the 1980’s and the 1990’s there were continuous issues with poverty and crime and it peaked up to the heroin epidemic. But by the end of the 1990’s they demolished some of the Sheriff Street flats like St.Laurances Mansions, St.Bridgets Gardens, and Phil Shanahan House and after these flats were got rid of, the area finally started to quieten down.

Also one this area has actually been defined as Upper and Lower Sheriff Street, Mayor Street, Guild Street, Commons Street, Oriel Street and Seville Place. So if anyone ever goes and asks about sheriff street, you may get slighty confused, so do remember there are other names for this Street.

Now apart from Steven Gately who lived here, also Luke Kelly of The Dubliners was born there. But his home has now been demolished. Also you may or may not have known that filming for the 1993 movie In The Name of The Father, was made in Sheriff Street and also The film The Boxer lived, and Daniel Day Lewis lived here to.

So if you are interested in visiting, you should and this area of Dublin seems to have quite an interesting past.
Finally may i just say, that i was sadden to hear the news about Steven Gately and i thought he was a brilliant singer-entertainer. I can also see from these pictures as to why Steven Gately thought to become famous, it amazes me sometimes how lucky some of us really are.
