V.T brings you, England and Germany football rivalry.

By Mark on June 26, 2010

As you can imagine for football fans around England and Germany on Sunday 27th June at 15:00 the football World Cup comes to life as English and German fans will be biting their nails, who will win, England or Germany, well I feel this is a chance for the English as the Germans have a very young team, that I can see in the future will be very hard to beat, but at the moment they are beatable, and the English team if they get it right are mature and very experienced, and Germany are missing one of their stars in former Chelsea player Michael Ballack. What a chance the English have this time around as former World Champions France and current World Champions Italy have fallen at the first hurdle. Brazil, Argentina, Portugal and Spain look good, but the Netherlands look very strong this time around. On top of this we also have surprises like Japan, Slovakia, Chile and U.S.A in the last 16, and do you know that this is the first time that a low amount of European teams have qualified for the last 16, this year only six teams, have made it and all five of the South American teams have made it through to, with two from Asia, two from North and Central America and sadly only one team from Africa, Ghana. This is turning out to be one of the weirdest World Cups i have ever known.

But lets go back to the England, German rivalry, it is a highly competitive sports rivalry that exists between the national football teams of the two countries. This time of game is often attracted by the media and they tend to make it really exciting, to try and get the two countries involved. The footballing rivalry started back in 1966, during the FIFA World Cup, it kind of kicked off with non-footballing events that had taken place between the two countries in previous decades, sadly the most particular one was the Second World War. Because of the war it made the rivalry a highly competitive and sometimes unpleasant one for fans and football players alike, but both sides have usually attempted to downplay such negative associations. When England play Germany it is regarded in England as one of the main rivals of the national football team, but there is alos another national football team that has a high rivalry and this team is Argentina. Again like the second World War, the Falklands War effected the British, it was caused by Argentina. But it is mainly on the English side, as the Germans share a traditional rivalry with the Netherlands. Where as in Argentina, they have rivalries with England, Germany, Scotland and their main rivals, Brazil.
