Welcome to the Spainish city of Vigo or in Spanish, biɣoi, it is a city and municipality in Galicia, Spain. The city is located on the ria of the same name on the Atlantic Ocean, which is a  is a landform, often referred to as a drowned river valley, usually most rias are almost always estuaries. Vigo is the largest city in the region of Galicia,it has a population of 297,332, and if you head outside of the city towards the  metropolitan area you will find that the  population oincreases to 468,654, and because of this population growth, Vigo has now made its metropolitan area the 14th largest in  Spain. This is the largest of cities in Spain which is not a provincial capital.
There is plenty to do and see in this city for example you have Casco Vello, historic center, Co-Cathedral of Santa Maria de Vigo (1816–1836), Puerta del Sol area, Principe Street, Romanesque church of Santa Maria de Castelos (12th century), Church of Santiago de Bembrive (12th century), Church of San Salvador de Coruxo (12th century), and also there are Spanish Museums like, Naturnova Museum: Museum dedicated to environment. Interactive contents, Museum of the Sea: Museum dedicated to the Sea, and to tinned food and to naval. Important building designed by famous architects Aldo Rossi and Cesar Portela, Museum of Contemporary Art: One of the most important museums of Contemporary Art in Spain, Museum of Castrelos.

There is also the Port of Vigo and of course the city centre, but if you have a chance you must go and visit the Cies Islands and it beautiful beaches. The Islands are an archipelago or group, which are off the coast of Pontevedra in Galicia, they are actually found in the mouth of the Ría de Vigo. The Islands actually belong to the parish of San Francisco de Afora, in the municipality of Vigo. In 1980 they were to become a Nature Reserve and are included in the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park which was created in 2002. This may be a surprise but in 2007, the British newspaper The Guardian actually said that the beach of Rodas, which is in the island of Monteagudo, was the “most beautiful beach of the world”, WOW, that must say something hey.

Here is a little bit of cultural history about this city for example the “A movida viguesa” which back in the past was a hedonistic cultural movement that took place in Vigo during the 1980s, this movement began when the former dictator Francisco Franco died, there then began an explosion of liberties. This was to bring the most important artists of this postmodern movement which happened to be musicians; especially in punk and new wave bands such as Siniestro Total, Golpes Bajos, Aerolineas Federales, Semen Up or Os Resentidos. Today the city still has notorious bands like Iván Ferreiro (ex-singer of Los Piratas) and Mon. Vigo is also very well-known for a locally produced award-winning feature film known as Mondays In The Sun, in Spanish the title was Los lunes al sol, it is about the lives of several men whose jobs are to go at the port, where they used to work. It is not based on a single individual’s experiences, it is a collective group of peoples experiences of many local port workers.
