This is a post about England’s Angel of the North which is a sculpture which was designed by Antony Gormley, you will find this amazing sculpture near the large city of Gateshead, in the north-east of England. The Angel of the North can be found on a hill, on the southern edge of Low Fell which is located between the main A1 road and the A167 road, leading into Tyneside and the East Coast Main Line rail route.

It is a very large artistic piece of work, this sculpture stands at around 66 feet or 20 metres tall and has a wing measurement of 178 feet or 54 metres in length and this statue is actually wider than America’s statue of liberty’s height. It is made of steel, and is an amazing site to see, especially nowaday’s. Being so tall you can see this Angel from miles away.
It has been made to cope with very strong winds as in this part of Britain, it can become very blustery and have very strong gales. But due to where it stands, the Angel of the North is able to cope with winds of up to 100 mph or 160 km/h. To beable to do this they first had to find the securist postion and then built a foundation of 600 metric or 661 tons of concrete to keep this sculpture standing.

By bringing the wings of the angel forward it show an embracing postion, making you feel more relaxed and calmer and also causing the Angel of the North to look more realistic. The sculpturer, Anthony Gormley, said that by doing this to the wings, it becomes “a sense of embrace”.

Finally did you know that they have built another sculpture of the Angel of the North which you will find in Miniland, Legoland, Windsor, Berkshire, England, U.K. So if you ever get the chance to visit legoland, Windsor, go and see the lego sculpture.
