This is Southampton, Hampshire , England one of the U.K’s busiest Ports.

This is a post about one of the busiest port towns in southern England, Southampton. It is the largest city in the county of Hampshire, which is situated on the south coast of England. If you were planning to travel to London from here, it is around 100 km or 62 miles south-west of London, southampton is 30 km’s that is 19 miles north-west of Portsmouth, which is also another busy port and is where the Royal Navy stay. Hampshire is well known for the New Forest and it is the closest city to the forest. And the Southampton lies between the River Test and River Itchen, with the River Hamble joining to the south of the urban area. Most of the towns and cities also have their own local authority and this is Southampton City Council, which is a unitary authority.

Eling Creek

Alot of people have never heard or even been to Southampton, but you may be surprised who actually works there. You see there is a large amount of workers in this city and some of these business are the University of Southampton, the Ford Transit factory, Ordnance Survey, the BBC through Radio Solent and South Today, the NHS and one of the largest commercial ports in Europe. Also you have the Southampton football team at St.Mary’s stadium and the Hampshire cricket club who play their matches now at the Rose Bowl which was newly built in 2001 and located at West End, near Southampton. The Hampshire cricket team used to play at the County Ground in Northlands Road, Southampton, as well as other towns and cities within Hampshire. There are also plenty of shops, bars, clubs and hotels within the city.

The city itself is the main core of the the Greater Southampton region and the rough estimate taken of the population including the urban area taken in 2008 was around 234,600, sometimes you may here of the abbreviated names like “So’ton” or “Soton” and if you ever meet a person who lives in Southampton, they are often called Sotonian.
But one of the most well known facts about this city is that it has been associated with the RMS Titanic, the Spitfire and more recently a number of the largest cruise ships in the world. So if you are lucky enough to visit Southampton, you really must visit the Port, Netley Castle and St.Mary’s football stadium.
