This is Mersea Island, Essex, England, United Kingdom, discovered by Virtualtripping.

When I go investigating on Google Earth sometimes, I will find places within the United Kingdon, that I have genuinely never heard of or even visited before, so what have I discovered this time around, it is Mersea Island, which used to be known as Mersey Island, it is the most easterly inhabited island in the United Kingdom, and is to be found just off the coast of the county Essex, in England, and is 9 miles (14 km) to the southeast of Colchester, one of the largest cities within the county. This Island is situated in the estuary area of the Blackwater and Colne rivers and has an area of around 7 square miles (18 km2). The name ‘Mersea’ is derived from the Old English meresig meaning ‘island of the pool’.

Mersea is quite a small island, but it has a large population of 6,925 for the size and is the most easterly inhabited island in the UK. Like a few of the Islands in the U.K, this island is joined up to main England, by a bridge or a causeway, known as The Strood. It is conected to the Mersea–Colchester road (B1025) which is often covered at high tides and especially including spring tides. Mersea’s close neighbour is Ray Island. The Island is separated by the Pyefleet Channel to the east and the Strood Channel to the west. When you arrive at Mersea, you will discover there are two main settlements on the island, the small town of West Mersea and the village of East Mersea, plus a small hamlet at Barrow Hill to the north of West Mersea.

I like to learn about these small islands, because there is always something to see and discover, there are hotels, pubs, so places to stay and enjoy and places to eat, so if you ever get the chance you should visit and so will I. Plus if you are lucky enough to visit Mersea Island, during August, there is the Mersea Regatta, it is a week-long late summer festival of boat racing.  The week of the festival changes each year depending on the tide tables – it is the last Saturday in August to have a high tide at around midday. There will be street entertainment and lots of stuff going on around the harbour, with music, hot dogs and ice-cream. There are also lots of artists around the island as well as lots of fishing going on to.
