Cadiz is a large city and harbour port in the southwestern part of Spain. This city is the capital of the Cadiz Province region, and is also one of eight which make up the autonomous community of Andalusia. Cadiz is actually one of the oldest continuously-inhabited city in the Iberian Peninsula and it is quite possible it is also the same outside of all southwestern Europe, it has been a major port for the Spanish Navy and that has been going since the Spanish Bourbons in the 18th century, and like alot of these older cities you will find it hosts the University of Cádiz.

Now considering that this city is situated on a on a narrow spit of land surrounded by the sea, it is still a very typical Andalusian city and hosts a wealth of attractive vistas and well-preserved historical landmarks. Now unsurprisingly like alot of the older cities you will find it is a city within a city, as the older part of Cadiz is surrounded by a wall and the newer part of Cadiz is outside the wall. So you can imagine that there is plenty to see in historical building’s, port and landmarks.

As you can imagine if you go towards the modern part of the city you will find there are different types of characterized areas like the various quarters (barrios), and among these quarters are areas like the El Populo, La Viña, and Santa Maria, which present a marked contrast to the newer areas of town, they are places with restaurants, shops, bars, etc. Where as you were to head down the older part of the cities streets you will find them like narrow winding streets which lead onto plazas, which are like town squares. Where in the new part the streets are more wider and have newer and freshly looking buildings. Also added to the city are numerous parks where you will find exotic plants, including giant trees supposedly brought to Spain by Columbus, flourish.
