This is about Calla d’or in Majorca, Balearic Islands, Spain.

By Mark on August 9, 2010

Now sometimes I feel like it would be nice to go away and have a short break, I was looking at Cala d’Or in Majorca it is a holiday resort on the east coast of Majorca. Cala d’or consists of three principal areas: the town centre of Cala d’Or, Cala Egos and Cala Ferrera. But what took my eye was that this town offers many small, fine sandy beaches, this includes, Cala Gran, Cala d’Or, Cala Egos, Cala Es Forti, Cala Serena and Cala Esmeralda, that is six sandy beaches all within the same area, fantastic, there is also a mini ‘road train’  which  regularly runs for holidaymakers between different parts of the resort and the beaches.

Because Cala d’or is not a large city you will find that during the summer months the town can be quite lively, but unfortunately in the winter months the town is very  more low key, than the larger and more populated resorts in Majorca. When you go walking through this town you will find plenty of entertainment, for example there are a wide variety of shops, bars, and restaurants aswell as wide selection of international cuisine.
But unsurprisingly one of the most popular parts of Cala d’or is it’s  marina, it welcomes exclusive yachts and chartered boats throughout the year, and also offering some of the best protection from storms in the whole of Majorca, although beware that turning in the entrance can be very tight.  Like most  marina’s you will find plenty of  restaurants and bars, nearby. When you arrive in Majorca, at  Palma airport, the travelling to Cala d’or is approximately  45 minutes, it is normally a straight forward drive, you will find very little from through traffic on your journey. The closest major town to Cala d’Or is Santanyi which lies further inland. There is also a pretty fishing port of Porto Petro it is only a five minute journey by car and can also be reached by the mini train.

One of the nice things about going to islands for a holiday, is that you have the pleasure to look around and see more traditional types of buildings like the ones at Cala d’or, most of the buildings are painted in traditional Mediterranean white and in the classic Ibizan style. The outskirts of the settlement are home to quiet holiday villas. But living in Great Britain, it is the thought of going to a nice warm place, with plenty of blue sky and very little rain, sounds good to me. There are plenty of hotels or apartments in Cala d’or not to far from the beaches and shops.
