The second largest city in the United Kingdom, Birmingham.
By Mark on September 3, 2008
Welcome to my new post about the English city of Birmingham, Well known for it’s Universities, Industrial Sites, Victoria Square, Selfridges and the Bull Ring shopping centre and of course Birmingham City Football Club and Aston Villa Football Club and much much more. I hope you enjoy this exciting post.

This is a picture taken from Google Earth of the United Kingdom and Ireland showing Birmingham.

This is a closer image of where Birmingham is in England, taken from Google Earth.

This is a satellite view of the city of Birmingham, England, taken from Google Earth.
Birmingham is a city in the West Midlands of central England, UK. As you can see on the maps from Google Earth they show you where the city is actually in the United Kingdom. It is a very large place with a multitude of different cultures all living within the same city. As it is a large place there is so much to see in Birmingham, that you would easily need more than a day to look around. Considering that Manchester is England’s third largest city, then Birmingham is the second largest city in England, it is buldging with history and entertainment that you almost do not need to visit London, England’s capital city. The city has a population of 1,010,200 that was estimated on wikipedia in 2005. Birmingham is a huge major centre for industry with manufacturing of vehicles, plastics, machine tools, aerospace components, chemicals and electric equipment. The city was also in the past a major manufacturer of swords and then later they manufactured firearms. The city is also well known for the National Exhibition Centre and as I said earlier on it is also a cultured city and it even has it’s own symphony orchestra. The city is also home to three main universities, they are the University of Birmingham which was created in the year 1900, then you have the Aston University which was opened in 1966 and finally the Central England in Birmingham, formerly the Birmingham Polytechnic which was established in 1992. I truly believe that Birmingham is Britain’s capital city when it comes to multi-cultured as more and more foreigners seem to want to live in Birmingham especially from the Asian communities. But they are bringing with them skills that are helping our country keep moving in Business.

I think that Birmingham with it’s hotels, B+B’s, restaurants, pubs, clubs, cinema’s, sports facilities, parks, wine bars, museums, local heritage and of course the major shopping centres and streets. And Birmingham is also home to the television station Central Television. Central Independent Television (1982-2002), ITV Central (2002 – present), Based in Birmingham and Nottingham the station Launched 1 January 1982 and Closed lost on-air identity 27 October 2002, known as ITV1 Central before regional programming only.
because Birmingham is so large, like London, it has a huge amount of history, which is so fascinating and has been written on wikipedia, so here is the History of Birmingham.

I’m surprised that a city with only one million people is England’s second largest. London’s population dwarf’s Birmingham’s at over 8 million.
Really?

Hi dont forget I was only talking about Birmingham itself, not the surrounding area of Birmingham, which has a population of at 2.5 million people, but that does include, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Westbromwich etc. But thanks for mentioning that though.
