THE REPUBLIC OF FIJI ISLANDS.

By Mark on January 8, 2009

This is a post about the kingdom of Fiji in the pacific ocean, near Australia and New Zealand. I have always been interested in writing about these island, as to me they are extraordinary places to visit. Tiny little islands with small populations living and surving to keep their own cultures moving forward. Unlike the large countries of today, where unfortunately their identity’s don’t appear that important, it appears to be more important to work together with many other countries. These tiny islands continue to keep and show their culture whenever it is possible to do so, well done to them and keep up the good work.
Below are some satellite image pictures and videos to do with Fiji.

Fiji is a country comprimising a group of islands that are situated in the Melanasian archipelago of the south-west Pacific Ocean. Fiji is mainly two large islands with another 104 populated islands and 522 islet’s or smaller islands that are uninhabited.
Fiji is around 400 kilometers or 248.6 miles from a plate boundary, but they are volcanic, as well as mountains and rain forests. The climate is usually hot, but not unpleasant. The islands unfortunately are placed in a hurricane belt and so they get effected by Tornadoes.
The economy is mainly based on agriculture and sugar is the main product, but fishing, forestry, gold mining and tourism are also important to Fiji.

The history of these islands dates back to 1643 when Abel Tasman visited the islands. Then in 1774 Captain James Cook landed in Fiji. In the 19th century, Fiji was known for inter-tribal wars and cannibalism. In 1874 Fiji became a British Crowned Colony. Thanks for the reply, I took my information from sources and that was what I came up with, but I do have to agree with you that I did wonder if it was a republic so thanks for that I shall edit the title now. Best regards Mark.
