The historic city of Lyon, France in the Rhone-Alps region.

By Mark on May 3, 2009

As my holiday is approaching, I am of course getting excited, so i have decided to write a post about one of the cities that i will be visiting, Lyon in France in the French Rhone-Alps, so here we go.
Lyon, also known as Lyons in English, is a city in east-central France. Lyon is the second-largest French city, with Paris being the first largest city and Marseille being the third largest. It is a major center of business, situated between Paris and Marseille, and has a reputation as the French capital of gastronomy and having a significant role in the history of cinema. The residents of the city are called Lyonnais.
Lyon is also a major industrial center specializing in chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotech industries. There is also a significant software industry with a particular focus on video games.
Lyon is the préfecture (capital) of the Rhône département, and also the capital of the Rhône-Alpes région. The city is known for its historical and architectural landmarks and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
To learn about the history of Lyon, please refer to Wikipedia. There is so much to learn and see about this city and I really just can not wait to visit Lyon. Unfortunately for me, it is just an over night stay so will have to get as much information as i can within the small amount of hours i will have.
