The Greek Island of Zante or Zakynthos.

By Mark on September 16, 2008

This post is about the small Greek Island of Zante or Zakynthos, it is situated on west side of mainland Greece, it is southern-central and just above Zante is the Island of Kefallonia. Zakynthos is the third largest of the Ionian Islands, covers an area of 410 km2 (158 sq mi) and its coastline is roughly 123 km (76 mi) in length. The island is named after Zakynthos, the son of a legendary Arcadian chief Dardanus. The name, like all similar names ending in -nthos, is pre-Mycenaean or Pelasgian in origin. Zakynthos has a thriving tourism industry. Below are satellite images taken from Google Earth of where Zante or Zakynths is situated in Europe.

The capital city of Zante is known as Zante the same name as the Island or as the Greeks would say Zakynthos. It is a quite Island compared to some of the other resorts, but it still is a beautiful Island to visit and it appears to attract more older people, rather than younger people who would rather go to Crete, Corfu, Lesvos, Rhodes, Kos and Kefallonia and many others. There is one airport on the Island and you can get to all resorts from there. The capital city is a port and there is plenty to do around there, with fishing and boat trips. The beaches in Zante are golden and with blue sea and skies and very hot temperatures, sometimes heading towards 35 degrees and above. With hillside views and fields, this is a popular place to visit. You will get all that you need on the Island and with hotels, and b&b’s and shops, bars, pubs, clubs, tourist information places, supermarkets and watersports,it is a smashing Island to see and enjoy.

Looks very nice. Gorgeous blue seas, much like Torquay, really. ;)
