The Eye on Malaysia in Asia.

By Mark on November 4, 2008

This is my next post it is on the gorgeous country of Malaysia in south-east Asia. Malaysia is a country with two parts that is separated by the China sea. The western part of Malaysia occupies the southern Malay peninsula to where you have a chain of mountains that separates the eastern coastal strip from the wider plains from the west.  The eastern part of Malaysia consist of two states Sabah and Sarawak which are on the north-west of the Island of Borneo, which is shared with Indonesia. Malaysia consists of the former Federation of Malay and occupies the southern end of the Malay peninsula, extending southwards from south eastern mainland and it is bounded from north to south by Thailand in the north and Singapore in the south, and it has a south-western coast off the strait of Malacca river.
The climate in the country is very monsson and causing alot of rainful each year.

The economy of the country as like many others is ok, agriculture is one of the main industries in Malaysia with rice being the major crop, but industry is still the main manufacturer in the country with automobiles, electronics, tyres, sawn logs, cigarrettes, tin, oil, palm oil, wood, rubber and cement, all play key roles in the economy. The mineral resources are bauxite, iron ore and copper.

The history of this country is very young compared to the ones that I have written about.
Established in 1963, the Federation of Malaysia, which originally included Singapore. But the federation was forced to let Singapore go as their was a concern that the majority of the population of Singapore would challenge the Malayan poliitical dominance. The small country of Brunei refused to join the federation.

The first ever prime minister of Malaysia Tunku Abdul Rahmanwas the man who thought it would be a good idea to form a federation, he was in power from 1963 – 1970. This federation caused suspicion in Indonesia, and a conflict began in Borneo between Indonesia and Malaysia which created a guerilla war and it was down to the Commonwealth military  to stop the fighting.
In 1969 problems occured between a politically dominant Malay and an econonmically dominant Chinese, resulting in riots in Kuala Lumpur. The parliamentary government was suspended in 1971, after alot of hard work, finally the Malayan government was reformed, with the United Malays National Organization was the only party left and it was run by Tunku Rahman.
Many good and bads things have occured in Malaysia and a strained relationship with Britain was also caused in 1994 due to a scandal of a £234million to build Pergau damin an aid for trade agreement. In 1997 the country collapsed into recession. But things have got better over the years.

Hey man, the interest in the world is admirable. But you gotta go. Malaysia is all about the sounds smells and flavors, and that is before you have your first conversation. I love the smell of deisel fuel, cigarettes and humidity blended together. I just close my eyes and go back to Malaysia for a few moments. Google earth rules, but it doesn’t replace the real thing.

The part on chinese economic dominance is not entirely true,if you’d gone deeper in the malaysian history, you would’ve come out with a different answer
