The Belgium port city of Bruges comes to Virtual-Tripping.

By Mark on May 15, 2010

This is about Bruges it is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is located in the northwest of the country. When I was younger me and my family went there for a holiday, it really is a beautiful city to stay at, and is also quite close to the Netherlands(Holland), where you will find the Dutch Windmills and Clogg shoe shops. Bruges is a historical city and is also welll known for it’s World Heritage Site of UNESCO.

This city is very close to the seaside village of Zeebrugge (“Seabruges” in literal translation). The population that was taken of Bruge in 2008, was 117,073 of which around 20,000 live in the historic centre. The metropolitan area, including the outer commuter zone, covers an area of 616 km² and has a total of 255,844 inhabitants as of 1 January 2008.

There are other canal-based northern cities, in Europe and one such city is Amsterdam, Netherlands, but even though this is the case, Brugges is sometimes referred to as “The Venice of the North“. Like alot of these seaside cities and towns, one of the main reasons why they have become so successful, is usually to do with their ports and surprisingly enough, Bruges port was once a significant economic importance thanks to its port. At one time it was the “chief commercial city” of the world. Bruges is also home to the College of Europe.
There is lots to see like the ports, shops, restaurants, museums, bars, art, historical buildings, boat rides, hotels, swimming areas, clubs, Cinemas, Theatres, concert hall, football stadium, church of our lady, walks and cycle rides, etc.
So go and enjoy yourself whether you like cities or towns I can garauntee you will have great times in Bruge.
