When my brother and myself were quite young our parents took us on holiday to Belgium in Europe, where we stayed at Da Haan, Oostende or Zeebrugge, I am not quite sure, but, what I am sure about was our visit to a theme park, what was then called Meli-Park, it has now changed, so here is what I have learn’t about the park now. You will find the theme park is located near the town of De Panne on the Belgian coast. Meli-Park was created in 1936 and went on to 1999, sadly it was then restored into a new park that opened on 20 April 2000. Meli-Park was an amazing place to visit, it had been bought, by a honey company and they decided to base the park on a honey bee theme. As you can see it was very successful with different types of rides and things to do, all based on bees.

For me it is very sad to have heard it has been taken over and changed, but it may have actually changed for the better, has it was taken over in 2000 by the figures of the popular Belgian and Dutch figures of Studio 100 that can be found.  Studio 100 is a  Flemish company that produces popular children’s television series and owns four amusement parks and four musical ensembles. So what they have done is made the park into another family based attraction. The theme Park now consists of the soaps or musicbands of the group. There are attractions of Kabouter Plop, Samson en Gert, Big en Betsy, Piet Piraat and Wizzy en Woppy.  Since it have been opened the park in 2006, when on to open 3 new attractions: the SuperSplash (in a whole new Piratezone), the SpringFlyer (“Spring” is a popular soap on the Belgian television, is Dutch for “Jump”) and a K3 museum. In 2007, Plopsaland De Panne opened a renewed Kabouter Plop-area, with 2 new attractions. In 2009 a new roller coaster opened: Anubis: The Ride. So it actually sounds really good fun and I want to go now.

Wow, Meli Park, eh? Thanks for reviving memories long forgotten. I never knew at the time it was a bee-themed park, but I do remember there being a lot of black, yellow and honey!

God what a memory. I remember from Dad taking me and my sister there as kids. We had spent a few days in Brugge. I remember the water ride land of the bees where you saw how the honey was made and the chain swings. i think they are called wave swingers now……. what a great memory brought back to me. wanted to take my kids there as my son is now 12, the age i was but maybe not if it has changed so much, it may spoil the memory x
