My post on Star Trek, tv, movies, novels, video games and themed series.

By Mark on August 6, 2010

When I was a young boy, I used to love watching Star Trek: Original series, and Star Trek: The Next Generation, series. At this moment I have been recording the Star Trek movies, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Star Trek Generations, Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection, Star Trek Nemesis and the new movie just come out is Star Trek, 2009. Below is a youtube video of a review of the new Star Trek film, that was made in 2009 and appears to go right to the beginning of the story of James T Kirk as a young man, just trainning to become a cadet in the starship academy, it looks a good film.

Star Trek, as become one of the world’s most recognised tv franchise. It started as an American science fiction entertainment franchise. The first original Star Trek, was an American television series, it had been created by Gene Roddenberry, which debuted in 1966 and ran for three seasons. Basically it was about a group space travellers and it’s adventures of Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the Federation Starship Enterprise, this idea came from a previous earlier pilot film known as “The Cage,” this starred Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Christopher Pike. When more series’s were made the franchise started to call, the Kirk-headed series, as “Star Trek: The Original Series”. this statement became more and more of the name to Star Trek. These adventures were continued by the short-lived Star Trek: The Animated Series and six feature films.

It became so big, that the television companies decided to expand Star Trek and another four more television series were eventually produced, based in the same universe but following other characters: Star Trek: The Next Generation, following the crew of a new Starship Enterprise set a century after the original series; Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager, set contemporaneously with The Next Generation; and Star Trek: Enterprise, set before the original series, in the early days of human interstellar travel. Four additional feature films were produced, following the crew of The Next Generation, and most recently a 2009 movie reboot of the franchise featuring a young crew of the original Enterprise set in an alternate time line.

But it really is amazing that just one individual and his idea, went on to become so big, that not only was it a tv series and a movies series, but it then moved into computer and video games, hundreds of novels, as well as a themed attraction in Las Vegas, which sadly closed in September 2008. Beginning with the original television series and continuing with the subsequent films and series, the franchise has created a cult phenomenon and has spawned many pop culture references. Star Trek is big busines and if you get into this franchise, you are quite likely to have a good living, as it nevers seems to go away. Even though Gene Roddenbury the creator, and other well-known actors like, DeForest Kelley (Dr Leonard “Bones” McCoy), James Doohan as Montgomery “Scotty” Scott and Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, Nurse Chapel in the original series and second wife to Gene Roddenbury, Mark Lenard, Sarek, Spock’s father.
