Iraq a new beginning?

By Mark on July 21, 2008

Iraq is a west Asian country bordering Turkey in the north, Iran on the east, Syria and Jordan on the west and Saudia Arabia and Kuwait in the south. With rolling deserts covering the west and south-western parts of the country, and in the northern parts especially the eastern side Zagros, mountains, where farming is produced. In the northern plaines there are two rivers named Euphrates(Nahr al Furat) and the Tigris(Nahr Dijah), but they are mainly dry. Where as in the southern plaines of Iraq where the two rivers join you have the Mesopotamia marshes and the Shatt Al Arab which is a water way. And that is where you can find Al Qurnah and with the marshes there you can find farmland. The summers in Iraq are hot and dry, where as in the winter it is milder with some or little rainfall.

The Iraqi economy has never really been very strong of the years, and especially due to the two big world wars,(1914 -1918) and (1939-1945), the Iraq-Iran war of the 1980’s, the Gulf war with Kuwait and the coalition forces led by the USA and the war in 2005, which finally bought the Saddam Huessain’s regime to an end. And many other wars over the years. But with all the problems that are happening in the country of Iraq, Oil is the number one priority when it comes to exports and with farmland covering almost a fifth of the country, including pasture. Exports like Barley, cotton, dates, fruit, livestock, wheat and wool and the industry includes refining of oil and the manufacturing of consumer goods and petrochemicals. The country is trying to stabilize herself, but while the problems continue and soldiers and civilians keep dieing and the occupation of the country carries on Iraq will never really prosperer and yet the country is quite able to. With the help of her neighbours and the world.

I can’t read about Iraq without a feeling of extreme pity for all the Iraqi people considering what they have had to endure over the last couple of decades. A new beginning? No. Just another page of misery. The deserts are still awash with depleted uranium from the Gulf war in 1991, let alone the current invasion.
