Have you ever visited Everton football club  in Merseyside, if not I am going to tell you a little bit about this city. Well the football stadium is known as Goodison Park, it is located in the town of Walton which is part of the city of Liverpool.  This town is located in the north-west of England. It is more of a residential town with a population of different cultures.  Now for all you guys that do not know much about Walton it was originally known as Walton-on-the-Hill,  which is an area of Liverpool, situated to the north of Anfield and the east of Bootle and Orrell Park.  So where does the name Walton come from, well it is said to have derived from the same name as the british country of Wales. It is possible that the Saxons called british inhabitants the Walas or Wealas, meaning that it could have been once known as Walas town, but wether this is true or not, it has been proven to one of the oldest settlements in Merseyside. As this town is part of Liverpool, you can imagine what the rivalry between Everton and Liverpool is on the football field. It is very strong.

So has I mentioned earlier, the name of Everton’s football stadium is Goodison Park it has been the home of this club since 1892 and happens to be one of the world’s first purpose-built football grounds. Like all stadiums changes will always happen and so Evertons stadium is no different, but Everton’s ground has changed from being a standing stadium to now an all seater stadium. It holds up to 40,157. The fans like to have knick names and the teams is known as the ‘Toffees’ The Blues, The School of Science and the stadium is known as “The Grand Old Lady” and the abridged “Goodison”. The name Goodison actually comes from adjacent Goodison Road. This stadium has been host to the Football Association Cup, the 1966 FIFA World Cup and hosted the first professional baseball game in 1924, between the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox tour.

So Everton F.C is a professional football club that plays in the English Premier League, which is the highest level in English football. This club has been in this division for 107 seasons, and have played more top-flight  and they have won the League Championship, nine times making them the fourth highest team to do so.  They arrived in the top division in 1954 and have never looked back and were founder members of the Premier League in 1992. They are also one of the oldest English football teams around today, they joined the first ever football league in 1888, after being created in 1878. Everton has a large fanbase and they normally get about 36,000 fans watching their games, filling up 95% of the stadium. But there are plans for this club to move to a 50,000 seater expandable stadium, which is near the town of Kirby on the border to Liverpool city, but they were blocked by a public inquiry. Traditionally, the club’s home kit is a royal blue and white.
