i am a Guyanese and i am proud to be on, i find that may Guyanese that leave our shore and go abroad, do lots of damage to the image of Guyana.
we are a lovely diverse culture that have a lot to offer, like birdwatching and travel into the interior. each country has its problems and i know that mine is no different. i am not good with politics but i do believe that most of our problems have to do with our government, we do have drug trade but so does large countries like the US... our government is also promoting a new plan of action for our rain forest( and i say ours.. lets not talk about the rest of the world and how they cut down their forest).. please read more about the Low Carbon development Strategy...
please don't call my country poor... we make it how best we can... we are a developing country.. i would encourage other to come and see my country don't stick to the coast... travel see more of Guyana, the flora and fauna and then tell me who is poor or rich...
i am sorry if my tone is sound a but angry but it make me upset to see people belittle my humble home. i too will be leaving these shores soon and but i promise that i will be truthful to my home and always proud of my beginnings

Sadly Angela, it is true, that is life and sometimes even when the richer nations help the poorer ones, the money does not always go to good use. Cutting down the rainforest appears to be an easy option and that will always be sadly, thankyou for your comment, Mark.

Hi My boyfriend is originally from Guyana although his family moved to North America when he was about four. He said that Guyana was extremely poor and it has become a main port for drug smugglers and there is hardly any legal work. It is such a shame that a country with such potential is heading down this path. Guyana needs some major investment in order to create jobs. It should not come at the expense ot cutting down their rainforest which a lot of tourist love to see. We have already cut down enough of the worlds lungs (the rainforests of the Amazon etc)

I love Guyana. I only learned about this country this year when I met my fiance. I traveled there and it's a beautiful place with wonderful loving people. I am heading back in about a month.
