Christmas in Bethlehem

By Mark on December 10, 2008

Welcome to my Christmas post on Bethlehem, a small town in the West Bank, Palestine, near Israel.
Alot of us already know the Christmas story, the birth of Jesus Christ to Mary and Joseph. I am going to take you through the town that Jesus was born into. Bethlehem was under Roman control and the leader Julius Ceasar. Has you can imagine, the times were hard and people were always looking for some kind of inspiration. So when this little boy was born, a cloud lifted off Bethlehem and Palestine. But of course many people were unsure of this baby and what this baby could and would do for the peoples of Bethlehem, Jerusalem and other towns and villages within the area. Most of us know that Jesus was born in a stable , as there was no room at the inns. But how people new about this birth is a mystery to me. The three kings following the star of Bethlehem and bringing with them gold, frankincense and myrrh. The shepherds and Angels come to visit, worship and help as well. Below we have satellite images, pictures and videos of Bethlehem, the Christmas celebrations and the birth place of Jesus Christ.

Bethlehem is a small town south of Jerusalem, also known as Bayt Lahm in arabic.
This town has moved from Palestine to Israeli control and finally back to Palestine. This town as seen alot of trouble for many years, after the state of Israel exsisted. Will there ever be peace?, now the problem is that Bethlehem has a mixture of Israeli and Palestinans. They both believe that Bethlehem belongs to them.
First mentioned in the Egyptians records of the 14th century. Back then it was known as the native city of King David. The more common known fact is that Bethlehem is the birth place of Jesus and in the year 330 Constantine built and church over the possible site of his birth.

What a brilliant entry Mark. The music is still playing as I write this. I really like this song I didn’t know they were so into bagpipes there. You have done an excellent job. It is just a pity there is so much unrest in the area at the moment.

I know it is ashame really, but there is unrest every where now adays and it all comes down to jealouscey and greed. Even in Britain people are fighting to survive especially the poor. The rich just keep on spending and using up alot of energy and we all suffer for that. With Christmas coming there will be people around Britain and the world homeless, abused and lonely this christmas my prays go to them. Thanks for the nice comment mum. Do remember that there will always be problems between Israel and Palastine as the Palastinians believe that Israel should not exsists within Palastine and also the problems between the the Jews and the Palastinians as the bible says that the Jews where to blame for the death of Christ, but nowadays we find out that it may not have been the Jews it may have been Pontous Pilot who really was a horrible man and killed many people because he could. But this is just my opinion.

I’m absolutely disgusted at the loss of life in Gaza right now. It’s just mindless slaughter and it makes me sick.

Hi Mark, I wish everyone would realise that Jesus died for every single one of us. We are all God’s children and our nationality doesn’t matter. As God’s children we should love one another but unfortunately evil does exist and people have free will. For Christmas 2009, I wish everyone would get the real spirit of Christmas and forget the commercial/greed. Happy Christmas. I enjoyed your web site. God Bless. Your sister in Christ. Caroline
