Brighton and Hove the Seaside City
By Mark on June 3, 2008
Brighton and Hove is my largest seaside town to where I live. It is a hustling and bustling city with loads of entertainment, scenery and businesses. The city is almost a county of it’s own and lye’s in the southwestern part of East Sussex, England. Brighton is very close to Hove and because of that the local government decided to make Brighton and Hove one big city. Brighton is of course know for famous singers and bands like,The Levellers, Fatboy Slim and The Electric Soft Parade. And it is not just a well known city for tourist’s, it is also the Capital City of Britain’s Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transsexual community. Brighton has a large amount of shops, bars, and clubs for the LGBT community. The city is in similar vein to San Francisco in the USA and Cologne in Germany. Brighton hosts a Gay Pride carnival every August, which attracts thousands of participants and spectators. It consists of a carnival style parade through the city and a party and funfair in Preston Park. There is also a “Winter Pride” in February each year.

This picture above is from Google Earth showing an aerial view of Brighton and Hove and its surrounding neighbours from the sky.
This is Brighton beach on a sunny day, which does not happen very often in this country.

Wow, I never realized Brighton was actually given city status. I heard that in Britain, if a town has a cathedral then it’s automatically a city. Brighton, on the other hand, was fighting for city status for years, and despite having close to half a million people living there, kept getting rejected!
