Alton Towers theme park at Alton, Staffordshire, England, U.K, Part 2.

By Mark on December 2, 2009

This is part two of the Alton Towers experience on virtual-tripping, there is plenty to see and go on, many rides and places to eat, drink and explore, it is a wonderland, especially for the young ones. This theme park was opened in 1980 and with the the corkscrew rollercoaster that unfortunately closed down on the 9th September 2008, the amazing Pirate Ship that then was renamed the Blade, the Alpine Bob sled ride, that also closed down in 1986. But thankfully Alton Towers survived thanks to the 1984, Log Flume and then the magnificent Black Hole, which was the second roller-coaster at the theme park. But not all of the rides are around anymore here is a Lost rides of Alton Towers part 1, Part 2, about some of the rides that have gone, plus there are many more youtube videos about rides that have been and gone and rides that are around today. The park today is still being invested in, which is great for us over here, because I feel that Britain is still one of the best countries when it comes to theme parks.

The park has passed through many business hands over it’s time and it was purchased by the Tussauds Group in 1990 and that lasted for 15 years, when a middle-eastern company the investment group Dubai International Capital (DIC), that was when this company purchased the Tussauds company for an astonishing £800million. Then in the year of 2007, Merlin Entertainments decide to purchase the Tussauds Group and that was for over £1billion, which they took over from DIC. Because of that, it mean’t, Alton Towers was to become part of this entertainment company. Finally in July of 2007, the whole resort and theme park was sold to Nick Leslau and his investment firm Prestbury, they then decied that the best way to continue to run Alton Towers would be to lease the park back to Merlin Entertainments, which means that they can now be incharge of Alton Towers for a renewable 35-year lease.
Why this park keeps changing hands just goes to show how popular it really is.

I am getting ready to prepare for the final party of Alton Towers, but I will also be writing about other theme parks, like Thorpe Park and Chessington Wotld of Adventures and others.
